A Personal Expression of Phoenix Dancong by Ye Hanzhong

Hui Xiang is a distinctive Phoenix Dancong created and personally blended by Ye Hanzhong, one of the most respected figures in the tradition of Chaozhou Gongfu tea and Phoenix Dancong.

Rather than being conceived as a commercial tea, this blend was created with a simple purpose: to share the expressive potential and fascination of Phoenix Dancong with tea lovers. Its character is remarkably versatile, and different brewing approaches can reveal surprisingly different facets of the same tea.

Among the cups tasted by the producer, the aromatic spectrum ranged from honeyed floral notes and magnolia blossoms to honeysuckle, nuts and the wild, deep character associated with old tea trees. When brewed in a small pear-shaped teapot, the tea revealed a particularly profound profile: deep floral aromas intertwined with a gentle sweetness, gradually rising from the throat back into the nasal cavity and lingering there for a long time. The texture remains smooth and moistening in the throat, with an increasingly generous expression through successive infusions.

This versatility is perhaps one of Hui Xiang's most fascinating qualities. Rather than imposing a single aromatic identity, the tea invites the brewer to explore its different dimensions, making each preparation a slightly different encounter.

About the author

Born in 1963 in Guiban Village, Fenghuang Town, Chaozhou, Ye Hanzhong comes from a family deeply rooted in tea. He is a nationally recognised master of Chaozhou Gongfu tea and a National First-Class Tea Appraiser.

He has devoted decades to the study, production, evaluation and transmission of Phoenix Dancong and Chaozhou tea culture. His work combines traditional craftsmanship with a systematic approach to tea evaluation and brewing, and he has played an active role in promoting Chaozhou Gongfu tea both in China and internationally.

Hui Xiang is therefore best understood as Ye Hanzhong's own interpretation of the Phoenix Dancong experience — a tea created to let its drinkers explore the depth, diversity and aromatic possibilities of this remarkable tea tradition.

A Rare Opportunity

Hui Xiang was produced in a very limited quantity and was not intended for long-term production. According to the producer, no further production is planned once the remaining stock has been sold.

Only a very small number of boxes remain available, making this 2025 edition a particularly rare opportunity to experience this special creation.
